Our Recycling Efforts
Our Recycling Efforts
*Make sure all of your teachers have a recycling box. If they don’t have one, offer to make one for the teacher.
*Don’t let your classmates or your teacher throw away paper in the regular garbage. Encourage EVERYONE to recycle!
*Don’t waste paper when doing a project! If you have extra sheets of construction paper, save it for the next project.
*When printing something out from the internet, copy and paste as many pictures as possible into a word document. Don’t print endless pages of pictures when you can put a whole bunch on one page!
*Reuse paper. Be creative! Use the back, edges, etc.
*Make a project using pieces of cardboard.
What We’re Doing
Thanks to Ms. Midence, who took it upon herself to set up our school-wide recycling program, we are now doing our part to reduce our carbon footprint. This program is part of an initiative to help our students become more concerned about the environment and to be active learners. Team Green Recycling is an educational organization that empowers schools, teachers, and students to reduce, reuse and recycle waste by collecting all types of paper and cardboard. As a "Dream in Green" school, we have a Green Team composed of teachers and students who reinforce this program around the school and encourages staff to be part of our campaign to save our planet.
Who’s in charge of maintaing the program? Students are, of course! Our Energy Patrols are in charge of collecting the bins and checking the classrooms. These bins are taken outside the New Building every week and then the Green Team staff is responsible to take the recycled materials to a designated area.
Since this is our first year in the program, we are limited to recycle only all types of papers and cardboard. Our future plans include to add plastic, metal and any other recyclable materials. However, we have a station at the Media Center, designated to recycle any electronic devices to prevent them to go as waste and get to our landfills. We are also recycling organic matter by utilizing composts in our school garden, which in return will be used as natural fertilizer. We really hope to continue growing in our recycling efforts and to make SHENANDOAH greener than ever!!!!
