Art Club
The Art Club's mission is to create artwork to help beautify the school while
improving upon student creativity. Some of the activities the club recently participated in have brought accolades
and recognition from the community.
The art club members have completed 5 Fairchild Challenge projects including creating a hat
made entirely out of recycled paper and a hat made our of natural plant materials. Both hats were modeled at the
Fairchild Garden Ramble held on November 17, 2007. Art club members also received an Honorable Mention and were highlighted in
the Miami Herald for a Water In Words poem titled "Save Us" which told the tale of two parrot fish protesting people
mistreatment of Biscayne Bay. Four top artists were invited to participate in a Saturday workshop at Fairchild Gardens
where local botanical artists from the community, students, and parents enjoyed a free day at the gardens to create botanical
artwork. Students and parents took pictures and created sketches of exotic flowers and bromeliads. Participants enjoyed delicious
snacks provided by the Fairchild Challenge staff. Teachers and classes also participate in this
school outreach program.
Coming up, the Art Club will be continuing its focus on creating art that helps teach others about the importance
of caring about the environment and protecting natural resources. The club will also be taking field trips to The Wolfsonian-FIU museum
and Fairchild Gardens.
