Protecting Our World and Learning at the Same Time...
Shenandoah is once again participating in the Fairchild Challenge, sponsored by the Fairchild Tropic Botanic Garden. After winning top $1,000 prize last year, Shenandoah Middle School is ready to compete again! To learn more about the Fairchild Challenge, click HERE.
Extending beyond simple environmentalism, the Fairchild Challenge has been a vehicle for learning about science, ethics, responsibility and has encouraged Shenandoah Middle School's students to become better members of the community. Historic First For Shenandoah Middle School's Chess Club!
Shenandoah Middle School history was made on Sunday, April 5, at the 2009 National Chess Tournament, in the Nashville, Tenn when for the first time in the school's history a student, German Reyes - 7th grade - won the K-8 National Chess Championship. He finished the tournament with a perfect record of 7 wins and 0 losses. Congratulations, German! In addition, congratulations to Orestes Ordoñez for placing 11th out of 330 participants in the K-9 category. He also finished undefeated.
Shenandoah Middle School: Spanish language magnet powerhouse!
Shenandoah continues to typify academic excellence by capturing First Place in the language district competition:"Concurso de Español"! The students that participated in this shining accomplishment include: Kevin Batalla, Ninfa Cancio, Andrés Castro, Nidia Fuentes, Sagrario García, Teresita Gonález, Arlexis Lancacho, Alesandra Linacero, Pedro Peñate, Ernesto Pérez, Lucila Ruiz, Rut Silva, Edwin Únzalu, Daimi Vergara.

Shenandoah Middle School: Raising environmental awareness...
Members of Mrs. Askins-Cruz' Art Club received an Honorable Mention and were highlighted in the Miami Herald for a Water In Words poem titled "Save Us" which told
the tale of two parrot fish protesting people mistreatment of Biscayne Bay.
Shenandoah Middle School: Museums Magnet Program
Shenandoah Middle School is a school-wide magnet program, offering a high caliber, student-interest driven
curriculum that raises the academic bar at the school. Shenandoah Middle School Museums Magnet Program will partner
with the Lowe Art Museum, the Wolfsonian, the Miami Art Museum, the Dade Heritage Trust, the Historical Museum of South Florida,
and the Miami Science Museum.
Museum educators work side by side with classroom teachers, linking innovative curriculum to the resources and
artifacts of each museum, creating living laboratories and providing students with exposure to arts, culture, history, social inquiry,
